India’s healthcare sector leads in violative advertisements, constituting 21% of all complaints to the Advertising Standards Council of India (Asci). The surge is linked to increased drug and medicine ads on digital platforms. Honasa Consumer Ltd, including brands like Mamaearth and Dr. Sheth’s, faced numerous complaints, with 103 out of 104 ads requiring modifications. Asci noted a significant rise in ads violating the Drug and Magic Remedies Act, leading to recommendations for withdrawal or modification. 565 advertisements were referred to the Ayush ministry in the past six months.
