Airlines damaged thousands of mobility aids this year: Here's how 30+ flyers were affected

In 2023, thousands of wheelchair users experienced damage to their mobility devices while flying. The Department of Transportation reported 8,637 incidents of mobility device damage as of September, accounting for about 1.4% of all devices transported. While the numbers for 2023 were slightly higher than the previous year, this can be attributed to the fact that airlines transported almost 75,000 more mobility devices in 2023.
